Why a Guided Session Matters

Family photos should feel guided, not stressful.

Most parents have the same worries before a session: will the kids cooperate, what should everyone wear, where should we go, will it feel awkward in front of the camera. The day either flows or it doesn’t.

Northridge Photo Studio plans the session in advance, helps with wardrobe and location, and guides the family through the day with a calm, kid-friendly pace, so the final images feel natural, warm, and polished.

We shoot relaxed, natural sessions in our studio or on location, for families from one person to a group of 100. Book a session and we will plan it with you.

How much do family photos cost?

Family photography pricing depends on session length, location, group size, and the package. Mini sessions start at $250 for studio sessions; outdoor sessions are priced higher. Contact us for a quote on standard and extended family sessions. Final pricing is shared after we confirm session details.

What should we wear for family photos?

Choose colors that coordinate instead of matching exactly. Soft neutrals, earth tones, and simple textures photograph well. Avoid large logos or busy patterns. We can help guide wardrobe choices before the session.

Can you help with young children during the session?

Yes. Young children are part of most family sessions. We work at their pace, keep things light, and direct gently. Most kids do better when the session feels playful instead of formal.

Do you offer maternity or newborn photos?

Yes. Maternity and newborn portraits are part of our family photography services. Both can be photographed in the studio with controlled lighting, comfortable temperatures, and a calm pace.

Can extended family members be included?

Yes. Extended family portraits (grandparents, cousins, multi-generation groups) are a regular part of our family work. Group portraits are scheduled with enough time to capture the full family and smaller subsets.

Where are good places for family photos near Northridge or Chatsworth?

Popular options can include local parks and trails in Chatsworth, the Stoney Point area, Orcutt Ranch, the Northridge / CSUN area, Porter Ranch open spaces, Granada Hills neighborhood parks, and Woodland Hills natural-light locations. Final choice depends on availability, season, and your session style.

Do you offer prints?

Yes. Prints, wall art, and album options are available alongside digital downloads. Print recommendations are part of the planning process.

Where is the studio located?

The studio is located in Chatsworth, CA, and serves clients throughout Northridge, Porter Ranch, Granada Hills, Woodland Hills, the San Fernando Valley, and Greater Los Angeles.

How do you create a family portrait?

A good family portrait comes down to three things: coordinated outfits, soft flattering light, and a photographer who keeps everyone relaxed. If you want to try it yourself, stand near a big window for soft light and prop your camera or phone up so everyone fits in the frame. The easier way is to let us handle the lighting, posing and editing. Most studio sessions take 15 to 30 minutes, and photos can be ready in as little as 24 hours. Book a session and we will take care of everything.

How long does a family photo session take?

In the studio, most sessions take 15 to 30 minutes with one or two outfits. Add a third or fourth outfit and it can run an hour or more. With toddlers we move faster, because they are usually done after 15 to 20 minutes, so we recommend one outfit, or two short ones. Larger groups take a little longer to arrange. Outdoors depends on how many locations you want. One spot and one outfit is about 15 to 30 minutes, and each extra location adds walking and setup time. As a guide, Mini sessions typically run 20 to 30 minutes, Standard sessions run 45 to 60 minutes, and Extended sessions are scheduled longer to allow time for groupings, breaks for young children, and individual portraits.

How soon do we get our photos?

Expedited orders can be ready in 24 hours or less. Standard delivery is usually 48 hours to 5 business days. Heavy editing, like face swaps or enhancements, can take a bit longer.

Do you only shoot in the studio?

No. We have mobile equipment and travel to you. The studio in Chatsworth handles polished portraits, maternity, newborn, and seasonal sessions, and outdoor sessions are available at local parks, trails, and natural-light spots around Northridge and Chatsworth. Beyond that, we have shot in the desert, at the beach and even underwater. Wherever the photos need to happen, we can plan it.

How should we prepare for a family photoshoot?

Pick outfits that coordinate without matching exactly, and choose solid colors over busy patterns. For kids, schedule around nap and snack time. Arrive a few minutes early. We set up our gear before you arrive, so we are ready when you walk in.

How many people can be in a family photo?

From one person to a group of 100. Everything is by appointment, so tell us your group size in advance and we will plan the setup. Larger groups get extra shots, and we combine the best faces into one composite so everyone is looking at the camera.

How often should we get family photos?

Many families do one every year, often around the holidays. Kids change fast, so every year or two keeps up with them. A new baby, a milestone or a family gathering is also a good reason to book.

What if someone is looking away in the group shot?

That is what the composite is for. We shoot 15 to 20 frames and combine the best faces into one image where everyone is looking at the camera.
